| Thallus crustose, leprose, powdery, whitish green to greenish or bluish grey, usually diffuse, forming extensive and irregularly spreading thin to thick (to 250 μm) ±continuous patches to 30 cm wide, or small irregularly roundish colonies 5–10 mm wide which eventually coalesce. Margin rarely delimited, lacking well-defined lobes. Soredia fine, dispersed or forming a thick continuous layer, ±globose, 20–50 μm wide, commonly aggregated in rounded consoredia 80–250 μm wide, with or without short projecting hyphae to 20 μm long. Medulla white, patchily distinct. Hyphae 1.6–3.0 μm thick. Photobiont cells ±spherical, 6–10 (–15) μm diam. Lower surface not apparent, without a tomentum. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC–, P+ yellow, UV–; containing atranorin (major), jackinic acid (minor), norjackinic acid (minor), ±roccellic acid (minor). Zeorin, strepsilin, di-O-methylstrepsilin, fragilin and 7-chloroemodin are uncommon accessory substances. |

| Common in W.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.; grows on soil, rocks, mosses or the base of trees in Eucalyptus woodland. Also in North America, Europe and Asia. | ||
